On International Women's Day, we saw the launch of Vågespel, a new podcast and website that gives a voice to the Norwegian women who emigrated to America between 1825 and 1925. The SBSCA is proud to partner on this important project for the Crossings 200 commemoration. Ten episodes will air throughout the year. Learn more on the SBSCA blog.

One Ocean Week in Bergen
Councilmember Dan Strauss traveled to Bergen with the SBSCA and a special delegation from Washington Maritime Blue. Seattle was unveiled on the signpost at the top of Mount Fløyen.

Seattle Sister Cities Short Film Festival
Polish Home Association
We enjoyed films from Seattle's sister cities, featuring the Norwegian animated short film Bear Hug.
The film festival was also available online, May 16 – June 1.

Crossings Commemoration Dinner & Program

The SBSCA, the Sons of Norway Leif Erikson Lodge, and the Norwegian Commercial Club celebrated the bicentennial of 200 years of organized Norwegian immigration to North America. It was an evening to remember with a full-course meal by On Safari Foods, live entertainment, and a special program about the reenactment of the voyage of the sloop Restauration from Stavanger to New York.

50 Years of Bergen Place

We celebrated 50 years of the park at Bergen Place with the SBSCA and Friends of Bergen Place. In Bergen style, we enjoyed a sparkling toast and a piece of a "White Lady" marzipan cake. The Norwegian Ladies Chorus and the Seattle Mannskor provided the entertainment with traditional Nordic songs, and City of Seattle Councilmember Dan Strauss was present at the official ceremony to commemorate this special birthday. We welcomed the Statsraad Lehmkuhl, the world's most beautiful tall ship and learned all about our oceans. We were there to greet and network with an official delegation from Bergen, Norway, with a visit to Seattle City Hall and the new Seattle Sister Cities signpost.

Nordic Innovation Summit

The SBSCA and its members supported this year's summit. With the theme "Resilience," it explored challenges and opportunities that our region shares with the Nordic countries. This year's headline speaker was astronaut, filmmaker, and trailblazer Jannicke Mikkelsen, the first Norwegian to travel into space.
