Jana Peterson: Artist Statement
Updated: 3 hours ago
This October, we are thrilled to bring you the art of Arizona-based Norwegian-American artist Jana Peterson. While we have many wonderful things to say about Jana's work, we thought it appropriate to let the artist and her work speak for themselves.

"I have been an artist for 45 years. I paint, metalsmith, sculpt, dance, and teach these crafts, professionally. Creating daily rewards me with the feeling of accomplishment, in that I have made something special and new, and leaving these impressions for humanity.

"I begin new pieces of art by researching, thinking, sleeping on it, mentally playing with color, experimenting with new media, and finding solutions, new and unique to the piece. My pieces evolve until they are resolved.

"I love to paint because much of my work is joyful, whimsical, uplifting, thought-provoking, meditative, introspective, extrospective, experimental, and fun to see.
My goal and aspiration is to create pure joy in the viewer’s life, to inspire and renew.

"I love color. I have no fear of color. My brushes bring classical music and paint together, designs that move the eye all around the piece. Often, there is a surprise in the work when one looks closer. The colors balance each other, creating movement and feelings of warmth and well-being.

"Laughter, the psychology of color, and dramatic reactions are evoked. It is larger, brighter, shinier, more metallic, neon, holographic, suspension, light, surprises, and hopefully newer, more unique, jaw-dropping, in-your-face, always changing, and unforgettably amazing art."

Be sure to join us at one of the many opportunities you have to interact with the artist this October at presentations, exhibits, and painting workshops.
